One community with one voice is the idea behind White City beginning the process to become an official city. The commuter city and surrounding area, which is about 20 kilometres east of Regina, is expected to grow to over 22,000 by 2045. The town has sent the RM of Edenwold a letter, notifying them that White City is pursuing a boundary alteration to include Emerald Park and other residential sub-divisions. Mayor Bruce Evans says preliminary talks with the RM have gone well so far. Some are concerned there may be an increase in municipal taxes but Evans says their analysis indicates there will be a small residential tax reduction and a more significant reduction for businesses. Evans adds that with the forecast growth, White City needs to focus on building a high school and additional recreational facilities.
