There are 137 performances in the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, but a few of them may be ones you have never seen before or even knew they existed. For over 10 years, through the Outreach Program, local musicians play at special care homes so those that can’t make it out to a show still get to enjoy the festival. Artistic director Kevin Tobin says there are 10 special care homes on the list this year and 15 shows. He adds there are all these nooks and crannies within the festival along with the larger stage events and they are all a part of the festival’s identity. Another program is the Jazz Intensive for secondary and post-secondary students. It’s 6 days of working with musicians, with students at all levels of experience, and it ends with a concert at The Bassment on Saturday. The 10 day festival continues through Canada Day with indoor and outdoor performances, some free and some ticketed.
