The Provincial Opposition wants to know more about the discussions and correspondence surrounding the restructuring of the Saskatoon Legal Aid Office.
Saskatchewan NDP Justice Critic Nicole Sarauer wants Justice Minister Don Morgan to disclose any discussions or documentation considering closure of the office before the decision was made to lay off six administrative staff and not fill three vacancies for lawyers.
Sarauer says they have heard concerns from the public and within the legal community and believes they deserve answers.
Legal Aid Saskatchewan operates independently of the Justice Ministry but Sarauer contends Morgan would be privy to those discussions.
Sarauer says there appears to have been no consultation before the restructuring decision.
The party’s freedom of information request was denied so Sarauer is calling on Morgan to provide details saying the buck stops at his office when it comes to the administration of justice in Saskatchewan.
