It’s now official. The Yellow Quill First Nation has a second urban reserve in downtown Saskatoon after receiving notification from the federal government of the successful status change for the building which is home to the First Nations Bank of Canada on 4th Avenue South.
The original urban reserve for the First Nation is the parking lot right beside that.
Yellow Quill Chief John Machiskinic says the designation of reserve status supports them in securing tenants who value an on-reserve location in a major downtown area.
Mayor Charlie Clark says it’s a point of pride for the City of Saskatoon, working with First Nations partners to help lead the country in forging new relationships.
The City has been working with First Nations to create urban reserves for the past 30 years.
