A long-lasting tradition in Saskatoon high school sports is returning for its 51st edition. The 51st annual Bedford Road Invitational Basketball Tournament is set to get underway Thursday afternoon at Bedford Road Collegiate. This year the four Saskatoon teams are host Bedford Road, Centennial Collegiate, Holy Cross and St. Joesph Catholic High School. The other 8 visiting schools are Bishop McNally out of Calgary, Carson Graham from North Vancouver, Collingwood School out of West Vancouver, Garden City from Winnipeg, Harry Ainlay from Edmonton, Luther College High School from Regina and River East Collegiate from Winnipeg. Holy Cross, a school that has participated in nearly every BRIT since the beginning in 1968 is prepared for this year’s tournament, that from Head Coach Brett Hardy.
“I think we’re a tough basketball team to play, like we have good depth, we’re athletic, we have a balance of veteran leadership and good young players. So I think if we play well we can make it deep into the tournament but with that being said you know if we get caught on an off night with eight minute quarters, things turn around very quickly.”
The 12-team tournament gets underway Thursday afternoon at 2:30 when Bedford Road tips-off against visiting Harry Ainlay of Edmonton.
