The province has launched an awareness campaign designed to make people awareness of the signs of an opioid overdose, and how to respond. The government also wants to reassure people that the Federal Government’s Good Samaritan Act protects them from being arrested if illegal drugs are present when police or first responders arrive. People living with addictions are encouraged to seek treatment and make use of harm reduction services such as the Take Home Naloxone kits. The kits are available to people who use, their friends, family, or anyone who may witness an overdose.
