The conservation and restoration of wetlands in Saskatchewan must be a top priority, that’s from the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Earlier this month, it was World Wetlands Day and with that, the NCC is looking to aquire additional privately owned wetlands in Saskatchewan for conservation through land purchases and donations. In Saskatchewan, the NCC conserves natural spaces including their Hole in the Wall property in the Big Muddy region which consists of more than 2 thousand acres of intact native grasslands and 183 acres of wetlands. Cameron Wood of the NCC says wetlands provide important functions including trapping and storing water. Wood adds that 80 per cent of wildlife across the prairies depend on wetlands for a least part of the lifespan. Those interested in donating land or wanting to learn more can click on the link below…
