St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation is thanking Robert Steane for his gift of $1-million to the ‘Close To Home Campaign for Hospice and End-of-Life Care’. Steane says he gives because he can. The campaign will see Saskatoon’s first free-standing hospice, known as the Hospice at Glengarda, with the goal of dramatically improving end-of-life experiences.
The Glengarda Steering Committee says an event in November of 2016 where palliative care patients, family members, hospital leaders, arts and music therapists, home care, and many others got together for a conversation on how to take care of people, and it really influenced their decision making on how to move forward and what should be included in the hospice. The sod-turning ceremony was held at the end of May for the new 15 bed hospice. The campaign is at about 80 per cent of its $20-million goal.
