It was an emotional morning in front of the Saskatoon Police Service headquarters. Family, friends and other community members came together for a ceremony at the SPS building before many of those in attendance embark on a two-day awareness walk for Ashley Morin to North Battleford.

The then 31 year-old went missing on July 10th of last year in North Battleford. Just two days ago on the one-year anniversary of Ashley’s disappearance, the RCMP announced they now consider her disappearance as a homicide.

Krista Fox, a family friend says the last two days have been tough and that she spends quite a bit of time with Ashley’s family and the heartbreak she sees, Fox says she wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

Fox adds they picked the SPS headquarters for the start of their walk given the strong support they have received from the police service and Dorthea Swiftwolfe, a former missing person liasion and now the victim’s services manager with the SPS. Fox says Swiftwolfe has gone above and beyond to help the family use the resources available to them.

The first stop of the walk is still undetermined, although the plan is to stop for the night near Borden before moving along Highway 16 towards North Battleford again Saturday morning.

Cree Way Gas is providing fuel for the two campers and truck along the way while SIGA is providing snacks and refreshments for those taking part in the awareness walk.

The RCMP also released new photos this week including one of a two-tone van. The van appears to have no windows and was on the corner of 96th Street and 16th Avenue in North Battleford on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 around 9:30 p.m., one of the locations Ashley was last seen.
