The largest donation in the 92 year history of the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Education comes from one of its graduates. Jane Graham got her Bachelor of Education in 1962 and says the 1-million dollar pledge is a way to give back to the institution. She also hopes the establishment of a school to explore the latest teaching techniques while reinforcing traditional methods that still work will produce better educators, students and communities. Graham says remembering self-doubts in her early days as a teacher was a large factor in making the donation. She points out the transition from facing your teacher in the classroom to facing your students in your classroom is a difficult one and this program outlining the art and science of teaching is going to make a difference. Jane and her husband Ron Graham have donated over 24-million dollars to the university including the Sport Science and Health Centre at Merlis Belsher Place and the School of Professional Development in the College of Engineering.
