The Premier of Saskatchewan says equalization once again was the hot topic in Ottawa Tuesday.
Ministers from Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and Saskatchewan have declared the need to expand the fiscal stabilization program as their No. 1 priority in talks with the federal finance minister.
Scott Moe says the numbers once again show how equalization isn’t working for provinces with resource-based economies. Saskatchewan, Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador as well as British Columbia and Ontario will not receive equalization payments.
Figures from the federal Finance department show Quebec will receive $13.3 billion, while Manitoba will see a $255-million jump in equalization funding next year.
PEI gets half a billion, New Brunswick $2.2 billion and Nova Scotia $2.1 billion.
