It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…
Which was worse this week, sports fans, the Zach Kassian-Matthew Tkachuk incidents or the revelations of the Houston Astros using technology to steal opponents’ signs? If you said Kassian-Tkachuk, you are likely an Oilers’ fan who thinks anytime one of their players is touched, their should be a penalty against the opposition!
The use of technology by the Astros in 2017…then Boston in 2018 when Alex Cora went from Houston coach to Red Sox’ manager…is deplorable at the least. Hidden cameras, wireless mics and receivers, buzzers for pitch detection…seriously, if you can’t read lips or get tipped off by an opponent’s mannerisms…on or off the field…too bad for you! This kind of cheating boggles the mind!
As for Kassian-Tkachuk, the issue here is officiating…again. If a penalty is called on Matthew Tkachuk for the first suspicious hit last Saturday between Cakgary and Edmonton, clearly a hit from the blind-side to Kassian’s head, then Kassian doesn’t lose it on Tkachuk when similar, but not as egregious, contact is made! The N-H-L and its officials need to wake up!!
And, the news item from New Orleans that has an arrest warrant being issued for a simple battery charge against Odell Beckham Junior…because he playfully swatted a police officer on the butt…is taking things way too far! Let’s get back to worrying about arrests for real crimes, not debatable politically correct violations!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
