The Horizon School Division based in Humboldt now has a coordinated approach to assessing threats against students, teachers, staff or district facilities.
It has signed a Violent Threat Risk Assessment Protocol with several stakeholders including police, fire and rescue, First Nations and social service providers.
Director of Education Kevin Garinger says it ensures a coordinated approach while pooling information and sharing expertise.
The protocol also calls for coordinated training.
Garinger says trained staff can in turn train newcomers to the division as well as their partners.
He says elements of the protocol have been in place for several years but was sporadic until now.
Garinger is confident division schools will be safer places under the protocol.
