The Nutana neighbourhood is the latest location for a Saskatoon CarShare Co-operative solar-powered electric vehicle.
Brainsport has donated one of its parking spots for the car and its power station.
Co-operative coordinator Megan Van Buskirk says Nutana is one of their most popular locations.
She feels although members didn’t specifically request electric cars they are becoming increasingly popular.
The five-vehicle electric fleet has been available under a two year pilot program set up by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Brainsport owner Brian Michasiw says he agreed to get involved because supporting sustainable transportation is part of their commitment toward creating an open and inviting environment.
The society got the funding to buy the vehicles for its Renewable Rides initiative and the co-operative will take it over when the pilot program ends in a couple months.
Members can book the vehicles online and simply plug them back into the power stations when they return the cars.
