The Water Security Agency has issued a high stream-flow advisory for all reaches of the North Saskatchewan River. A large low-pressure system dumped 40 to 60 millimetres of rain in the area of the basin located upstream of Edmonton. Possible higher accumulations were expected Friday.
Based on the current forecasts, a peak flow of about 16-hundred cubic metres per second (1,600m3/s) is expected to arrive at the Alberta-Saskatchewan Boundary next Tuesay or Wednesday. It should reach the Battlefords near Thursday and Prince Albert next weekend.
Depending on locations, water levels could increase by 1 to 3 metres. A 1.6 metre increase is expected at the Battlefords and 2 metres at Prince Albert. Widespread flooding isn’t inspected but it is being suggested that those with property near the river protect infrastructure like pumps.
