When you picture a library, you may picture rows and rows of books, which right now aren’t available because of closures because of COVID-19, but libraries are more than just physical books.
A lot of programming for the Saskatoon Public Library could be found online even before the pandemic, but now some of the favourite summer programs are also going digital.
Senior manager of programming, Katie Edwards, says the Summer Reading Club is for kids and the goal is to read 15 minutes a day and log those minutes online to earn badges and prizes.
Knowlympics is for all ages and is focused less on reading and more on other types of literacies.
There are 10 categories with activity suggestions for each.
For instance, a suggestion in the multicultural section is to watch a film in a different language.
Edwards lists storytime, grown up storytime, a teen writing challenge, geocaching and virtual escape rooms that are also online, along with the ability to download ebooks, audio books, music and videos.
