Miss Saskatchewan will be advocating against child sexual abuse and violence against women as her platform for Miss World Canada this November.
Shalom Ogoh says 1 in 5 women in Canada have had some form of unwelcome sexual encounter before the age of 15. She says she is using her platform to have a voice for many and bring awareness to the issue to help move to another stage of creating safer environments for children and women who experience abuse and violence in their homes. Ogoh adds that the pageant platform has allowed her to be a leader and be a good example for young girls.
25 year-old Ogoh emigrated to Saskatoon from Lagos, Nigeria when she was 16. She studies economics and statistics at the University of Saskatchewan, and plans to earn a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics.
Ogoh is the reigning Miss Saskatchewan and will compete in early November for the title of Miss World Canada in Toronto.
