The Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association held it’s second night of racing for its 2020 season Saturday at Wyant Group Raceway. Racing was scheduled in the Pro Truck, Mini Stock, Street Stock and Bandolero classes. The gates were opened for the limited number of fans.
Here are the results from a media release from the Wyant Group Speedway:
It was a night of tight racing Saturday at Wyant Group Raceway as the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association wrote its second event of the season into the history books.
The Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks and Street Stocks, along with the Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks took their first turn of the year (no pun intended), while the Schira Subways Bandoleros took to the track for round two of their four race season.
Some seasoned veterans, like Alex Leschenko were left watching the races due to mechanical issues early in practice. Bryan Johnson made his debut back behind the wheel of a race car after sitting the last ten or so years on the sideline.
Johnson, who was Street Stock champion eight years in a row from 2000 through 2007 came back in style, winning the first heat of the night and the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock feature race. The chase for second place in the feature came down to a photo finish with Mike Rea beating Ryan Fredrickson to the line by inches.
2018 Pro Truck Champion Brennan Kirton shows that he wants top place back in 2020, placing second in the first heat race behind Bill Zubrecki, but taking the checkers in the second heat and the Tiger Automotive Pro Truck Feature race.
2019 Mini Stock Champion Lachlyn Anderson also got 2020 off to a winning start. Settling for third in the first heat, won by Dakota Wollf, Anderson took wins in the second heat and the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stock Feature Race.
Finally in Bandoleros, Tyler Emond made the trip all the way from Leduc Alberta, setting for a win in the first heat race, but second in the other heat and feature. Jaydon Ewen took the checkered flag in the second heat and the Schira Subways Bandolero Feature Race.
