The Government of Saskatchewan announced Friday that the Gabriel Dumont Institute will receive an additional $3.2 million annually, for skills training programs.
The Gabriel Dumont Institute delivers programs and services for Metis students in the province, and funding will allow the college to offer education and training programs like Adult Basic Education and Essential Skills for the Workplace. These programs will provide adult learners with basic employment skills and workplace experience, with the goal of leading to further training or securing a job in the labour market.
Funding will also go towards Skills Training Allocation, which the province says will provide access to accredited training programs, that meet the labour market needs of employers in various sectors across Saskatchewan.
Career Training Minister, Jeremy Harrison, says the funding is key to making sure more individuals in the province’s Metis community have the tools they need to fully participate in the economy.
