On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Saskatchewan Green Party is highlighting its major platform plank of instituting a guaranteed livable income.
Leader Naomi Hunter says the Green Party would boost the welfare rate to $2,000 a month, transforming social assistance into S-A-I-E, or Saskatchewan Assured Income for Everyone, and increasing the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability by adding $2,000 a month to the current benefit. Hunter suggests if the Sask Party can spend billions on roadways, highways and what she calls corrupt land deals, then a Green Party government can well afford to eliminate poverty immediately.
