There was one injury in a house fire last night. The Saskatoon Fire Department says the smoke alarms had been removed which caused a delay in evacuating the home and would have contributed to the fire related injuries.
The Department received a 911 call at 10:40 about a house fire on the 300 block of Avenue Y South. Crews saw smoke coming from a 4-plex as they arrived. The fire was brought under control in fourteen minutes.
Two occupants had already evacuated. One was treated by firefighter/paramedics for burns and smoke inhalation, and was taken by ambulance to hospital.
The fire investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. It is estimated it caused $50,000.00 damage.
