A fire investigator is looking into the cause of an early morning Sunday fire.
The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 4:35 a.m. from the occupant of a house reporting a fire in the 1200 block Avenue D North, which is in the Mayfair area near 33rd Street. The caller stated several pets remained in the house and were directed not to re-enter the building. Dispatched to the scene are three engines, one rescue, one ladder, a battalion chief and a fire investigator.
First arriving firefighters found the occupants outside and observed flames through a front window of the house. One crew was assigned to begin fighting the fire through this front window while a second made entry to search the house for occupants and pets and attack the fire. Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control sometime later.
The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, but damages have been estimated at $100,000 and the Saskatoon Fire Department is reporting four dogs and two parrots did not survive.
