The City’s General Manager of Community services is confirming that an outdoor Farmer’s Market will be back downtown in May.
Lynne Lacroix says the outdoor Farmer’s Market will be somewhat expanded from last year, taking over the entirety of Sonnenschein Way, which is adjacent to the old Farmer’s Market building. Last year the city received an application for Market Square to be used for an outdoor farmers market as an extension of Ideas Inc.’s annual Street Stall Saturdays. This is a different market from the previous Farmer’s Market which moved to Koyl Avenue.
Lacroix says roof replacement on the former Farmer’s Market building was completed in February and additional work on the interior, including new lighting and washrooms is underway. Lacroix adds negotiations continue with a proposed tenant, anticipating an announcement of who will occupy that building in the coming months once a framework agreement is established.
