Residents in Evergreen could see a boost to their cellular signals with a proposed cell tower site along McOrmand.
The City’s finance committee will review a report today (Monday at 2pm) that would see SaskTel purchase land adjacent to the Evergreen Water Reservoir. SaskTel had initially proposed the site for a cell tower back in 2017, but now the location being sought after will be north of the original proposed location; this will mean SaskTel will need to do a new public consultation process.
Administration reports SaskTel would purchase the land from the city for $150,000. That deal would be subject to SaskTel’s satisfaction with the environmental state of the land, being able to obtain the necessary approvals to construct a driveway crossing to access the land, approval for a development permit, approval from Industry Canada for the construction of a telecommunications tower including confirmation that public consultation has concluded, and Subdivision approval.
If approved, the Administration will carry out the necessary procedures to complete the sale. However, a further report regarding a new policy for leasing land to cellular providers is being prepared for City Council consideration later this year.
