Around 4:20 Saturday morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a report of a fire at an apartment at 365 Kingsmere Boulevard. Upon arrival, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the building. Residents were evacuated. One occupant of the burning suite was taken to hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening. Fire crews managed to contain the fire to just one suite.
Residents were allowed back in just before eight a.m. Damage is estimated to be $85,000. The scene was turned over to the Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.
At 7:16 Sunday morning the Fire Department received a report of a fire at 526 Avenue G South. Upon arrival, fire crews saw smoke coming from the rear of the house. Utility companies were notified to shut down the utilities for safety reasons. The fire was brought under control and completely extinguished by 8:28 a.m. The fire investigator determined the cause was electrical. Damage is estimated to be $50,000.
