The heatwave at the end of June broke 94 daily maximum temperature records across the province.
That from Environment Canada Meteorologist Sara Hoffman who says five locations in Saskatchewan also broke their all-time record for highest temperature. During the heatwave, the hottest temperatures recorded were in Saskatoon and Lucky Lake both at 40 degrees Celsius.
Hoffman says the average temperatures across the province were warmer than normal. La Ronge and Meadow Lake both recorded their 2nd hottest June on record. For the city of Saskatoon the average temperature was 18 degrees, which ended up being the 6th hottest June in 124 years. The average temperature in Saskatoon during June is 15.8 degrees (1981-2010 average). Regina saw it’s 15th warmest June with an average of 17.9 degrees.
Hoffman says it wasn’t the same story when it came to precipitation. In the north she says it was wetter, and closer to normal, while the south of the province was dryer. Hoffman explains Meadow Lake recorded it’s 9th driest June on record.
