The long weekend is upon us and SGI wants everyone to drive safe. The Crown corporation is asking you to take it slow. Over the past five years, there have been an average of 211 collisions and 46 injuries over the August long weekend. The company is also reminding everyone to slow to 60 in highway work zones; to keep your eyes on the road, not your cell phone; to buckle up and, of course, drive sober.
Meanwhile, as more Canadians get out and about with the easing of pandemic-related restrictions, and with the weekend coming up – a holiday long weekend in many parts of the country – MADD Canada is asking everyone to keep one another safe by never operating any vehicle impaired.
“We’re asking everyone to do their part to prevent impaired driving. If your plans include alcohol, cannabis or other drugs, please leave the driving to someone sober,” said MADD Canada National President Jaymie-Lyne Hancock.
MADD Canada says the tragic deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving can all be prevented by never driving a car, boat, ATV or any other vehicle while impaired; never getting into a vehicle being operated by someone who’s impaired; calling 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.
