Saskatoon’s economy is almost 90 per cent recovered to pre-pandemic levels, according to SREDA’s latest quarterly update of its economic recovery tracker. The Saskatoon Regional Development Association says seven out of the 15 sectors it measures have fully recovered. They include manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, professional, scientific and technical services, health care and social assistance, the arts, entertainment and recreation, and public administration.
Saskatoon’s unemployment rate has recovered to it pre-pandemic rate of 5.5 per cent and the number of active businesses has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. However the travel and hospitality industry has seen lower demand with airport passenger traffic recovery falling to just under 46 per cent of its pre-pandemic rate and hotel occupancy at 78.5 per cent. SREDA says its economic recovery tracker is the first of its kind in Canada.
