Loblaw has confirmed the closure will occur on April 23rd. It is the only grocery store in the Nutana neighborhood with the nearest competitors located some distance away at Cumberland Avenue and 8th Street. Saskatoon city councilor Cynthia Block represents the area. In a post on Twitter, she calls the “decision devastating news for the neighborhood.” She is hoping a smaller grocer may be able to come in and fill the gap. Reports indicate the store employs 30 people, with the vast majority part-time.
