The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 10 block of Morris Drive in the city’s Massey Place neighbourhood at 7 o’clock Friday night. Once crews arrived, they found smoke showing from the garage. It was reported to firefighters that acetylene, paint, an oxygen tank and a vehicle were inside. Utilities were shut down and the fire was brought under control by 7:32. The investigation revealed someone was doing work in the garage an hour prior to the blaze. Sparks from a grinder were caught by used rags which then ignited. Damage is estimated at $100,000 dollars.
A person at the home heard a loud bang, which made the resident realize the garage was on fire. Fire officials say the bang was from tires being stored above that heated up and caught flame.
