A medal has been created to honour the 70th anniversary year for Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the Throne. Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty says the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal will honour significant contributions and achievements in Saskatchewan. Between June and next February, 7,000 medals will be awarded.
It was February 6th of 1952 when Queen Elizabeth became the monarch for seven countries, including Canada. During her reign, the Queen has visited Saskatchewan five times, including in 2005 for the province’s centennial.
