The provincial government is trumpeting the most Statistics Canada data that has Saskatchewan leading the country in, both, year-over-year and month-to-month growth in two key indicators of manufacturing sales and wholesale trade.
“Saskatchewan’s strong and growing economy is back on track,” said Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison in a government news release. “Our government is committed to attracting investment, increasing the value of our exports and diversifying our international markets and trade opportunities to ensure this growth continues.”
StatsCan data showed Saskatchewan’s manufacturing sales rose by 39.7 per cent, seasonally-adjusted, in February of this year compared to February, 2021…the highest growth rate in Canada. The province also had the highest growth in the nation from January to February of this year, an increase of 9.5 per cent, seasonally-adjusted.
As for wholesale trade by Saskatchewan, the increase from February, 2021 to this February was 36.7 per cent, seasonally-adjusted…again, the highest of all Canadian provinces. The province also had the highest growth in the nation from January to February of this year, an increase of 5.4 per cent, seasonally-adjusted.
In total, Saskatchewan’s manufacturing sales value in February of this year was about two billion dollars while the wholesale trade value in the province in February was approximately three-and-a-half billion dollars.
