Nutrien has gifted the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre (SFBLC) $2.5 million to use towards a new home.
The food bank has purchased property at 425 Avenue P South to open a singular facility. With the donation they are kicking off a capital campaign.
Executive Director Laurie O’Connor says their main building is bursting at the seams and the logistics of operating the off-site clothing depot, warehouse, and garden patch drains resources.
She says generous donors, dedicated volunteers and staff have enabled their organization to keep up with increased demand for services but they can no longer delay the need to find a new and functional home.
Nutrien’s Senior Vice President Candace Laing says the company’s focus is on feeding the future and their partnership with the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre is an important part of that commitment.
Candace Laing has also agreed to be Campaign Chair for the capital campaign.
This is the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre’s first capital campaign after beginning in the basement of St. Thomas Wesley United Church as a temporary project in 1983 before moving into its current building in 1990.
