With the new school year beginning tomorrow (Thurs), the Saskatchewan RCMP reminds parents and caregivers to keep safety in mind when posting those back-to-school pictures on social media.
A news release from the RCMP says, “Those trendy photos of children holding chalkboard-style back-to-school signs may be perfect for the family photo book, but there are some things you may want to think carefully about before you share them publicly. Ask yourself – are you comfortable with strangers knowing your child’s name and age, where they go to school and what their favorite things are?” The RCMP also advises to think about the setting of your pictures, because if it’s outside your home it could potentially identify where you live. Or, if it’s in front of the school sign, your child will likely go by that sign every day.
Police add that it might also be a good time to review and update your privacy settings on your social media accounts.
