The NSBA and the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce both endorse the Midtown Plaza parking lot as their choice for a new event centre-arena-entertainment district in Saskatoon. The two business groups are in alignment with Downtown Saskatoon which has also suggested the Midtown is the most favourable site.
The Chamber says its Task Force and the results of a member survey show fully 72 per cent of survey respondents expressed support for the location when compared to the other option which is the City Yards.
The NSBA is convinced the project will be the start of revitalizing the downtown. In addition the NSBA points out the Midtown Shopping Centre North Parking Lot site is nearest to the proposed Bus Rapid Transit routes and also provides better options for road access and active transportation in and out of the facility.
Wednesday the Downtown Saskatoon business group also gave the thumbs up to the Midtown Plaza location.
The CJWW internet news poll question asked what would be your preference for an event-centre/entertainment district? Eight-five-per-cent said they didn’t think Saskatoon needed a new event centre and arena. And the choice was split pretty evenly between those that wanted City Yards at 8 per cent and 7 per cent voted for the parking lot by the Midtown Plaza.
