The Lighthouse has issued a statement about its shelter bed services saying as of this weekend 30 shelter beds will be transferred to the Salvation Army. The other 31 will remain at the Lighthouse for the time being, and other services at the Lighthouse will continue to operate until the Ministry of Social Services and Ministry of Health establish arrangements elsewhere, to ensure care for those relying on their services.
The provincial government announced this spring it would be cutting funding after governance, administrative and financial issues at the Lighthouse were revealed. The Lighthouse Supported Living website says it has 99 beds for its emergency shelter, along with 68 supported living suites, and 58 affordable living apartments. A statement from President of Lighthouse Supported Living, Inc., Jerome Hepfner says, “The Lighthouse has made significant strides to heal the organization and we have maintained our focus on serving our clients. Our goal remains to assist those with the greatest needs in the city.”
