It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
To say I’m still waiting is an understatement! Last week, a former high-ranking executive with the Stampeders, as well as the Saskatchewan Rush and the Canadian Elite Basketball League – hi Lee Genier – tweeted a blockbuster, three-team trade in the C-F-L was imminent! Naturally, one can only assume that a so-called blockbuster involves highly-paid, second string Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell (pictured)! We’ll see, but the deadline is Wednesday and the clock is ticking!
It’s interesting to hear T-S-N panel members and broadcasters on Friday’s Riders-Winnipeg telecast talk about Saskatchewan quarterback Cody Fajardo being without a contract after this season is done and, essentially, auditioning for a new deal! I’ll take it a step further, “Corn Dog’s” slide from his 2019 coming out party to now, means he’s auditioning for a contract anywhere in the C-F-L next season!
With four weeks remaining in the regular season, the Green and White still hold their playoff destiny in their hands. Win in Hamilton this Friday and they’re the cross-over team into third place in the Eastern Conference! Lose and the Tiger-Cats, Ottawa and Edmonton still have a shot at over-taking them! All I know is that no matter who ends up third in the East, they should be an easy out with a woeful record!
I took my wife on a “Date Night” last night to the W-W-E “Summer Stunner” card at SaskTel Centre. I haven’t watched wrestling on T-V in a few years, so there weren’t a lot of performers that I knew, outside of the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart’s daughter, Natalya, and Sheamus! What hasn’t changed is the hero versus heel storylines, the questionable officiating – especially in tag team matches – and the bravado on the microphone. George “The Animal” Steele told me 35 years ago, when I was playing the intro and extro music for the wrestlers at W-W-E cards at the old Winnipeg Arena that pro wrestling was, “Soap Opera for men!” He’s right…and thankfully so!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…..
