This morning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau leaves Ottawa for Mexico City ahead of tomorrow’s formal meeting with the other two members of the so-called “Three Amigos” for the North American Leaders’ Summit.
In the meantime, U-S President Joe Biden will meet one-on-one with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Biden arrived in Mexico last night after visiting El Paso, Texas to see first-hand concerns over migrants at the border. It was his first in-person visit after two years in office.
Canada was the United States’ largest trading partner in 2021, when bilateral trade in goods and services between the two countries was valued at over $1 trillion.
Trade between Canada and Mexico is steadily growing: 2-way merchandise trade between the 2 countries was valued at over $41.7 billion in 2021. Mexico is Canada’s third-largest merchandise trading partner after the United States and China.
