The City of Swift Current extended its State of Emergency yesterday afternoon (Thurs) for another ten to fourteen days. A news release from the City says the water levels for the Swift Current Creek remain high, with fluctuations over the next ten days to two weeks as the Water Security Agency manages the continuous inflow of water into the Duncairn Dam, which is nearing its peak capacity.
Fire Chief Ryan Hunter says there is still a ways to go before they are in the clear but the WSA has helped by holding back water release from the Dam over the last few days, so now they can strategically release water over this next two week period while also navigating the run-off from the Cypress Hills and any precipitation in the forecast. Any low-lying homes around the Swift Current Creek are advised to have a 72-hour emergency kit and a to-go bag ready just in case they need to evacuate on short notice.
