The Director of Operations for SARCAN says not only is their new north depot for recycling, but the building itself also has some environmental aspects to it. Kevin Acton says the new building on Kochar (coacher) Avenue is double the size and has lots of windows to bring in natural light. The plans included energy-saving initiatives including LED lighting and some recycled material was used in the construction.
There is plenty of parking and the Drop and Go area has multiple terminals so more than one person can be served at once. There is also an expanded area for the bulk orders from hotels, restaurants, bars and bottle drives. As well, there are automated conveyor systems, so it’s faster for employees handling containers and quicker for customers, speeding up their visit. Acton estimates the north deport will do around 30-million containers this year. and the four depots will serve over 100,000 customers.
Saskatchewan’s Environment Minister, Dana Skoropad, toured the depot this morning (Mon). He says effective waste management is essential to responsible growth and SARCAN continues to be an in important partner in that work.
