A registered veterinary technologist has been hired to make regular visits to northern communities.
Katara Chanin has been a regular volunteer of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine’s Northern Engagement and Community Outreach (NECO) program.
PetSmart Charities of Canada is making the pilot program possible with a contribution of $405,000.
NECO offers various services at remote clinics in La Ronge twice a year and in Île à la Crosse every fall. These include spay-neuter and wellness appointments. The next NECO-led event is this Thursday through Sunday (Aug 17-20) in the tri-community area of La Ronge. Organizers have already secured 60 wellness appointments and 80 spay-neuter appointments in advance of the clinic.
