Riide taxis are no longer able to pick up or drop off people at the Saskatoon Airport.
Commercial taxi operators servicing the airport have been required to pay fees back to the airport, which are then reinvested into the curbside program to ensure a safe curb with less congestion.
In August of 2020, Riide’s license with the airport expired. Riide did not renew their license. The Saskatoon Airport Authority (SAA) says it made several attempts to bring Riide back as a licensed operator over the last few years.
Since August 2020, an emailed statement from the SAA says Riide has continued to operate on airport property unlicensed, and they are not remitting any collected fees to the airport. They say this undermines the integrity of the program, which four other taxi operators are participating in and abiding by.
The Saskatoon Airport took legal action against Riide, it said, to ensure fairness for all cab operators. On August 31st, 2023, the airport was awarded an injunction against Riide by the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, preventing them from continuing business at the airport.
Four licensed cab operators remain involved with the airport, such as Captain Taxi, Hey Taxi, Comfort Cabs and Radio Cabs as well as Uber and the city bus service.
