Neary a month after a group called the Kingdom of Canada started occupying the former Richmound school, the town’s mayor is calling on the government for assistance.
Early in the month, the group led by Romana Didulo, the self-proclaimed queen of Canada, was granted access to live in the school by the building’s owner. Since, they have been sending Cease and Desist letter to residents, as well as taking pictures and video of citizens, including children.
Mayor Brad Miller says an RCMP detachment was set up in the town as a precaution, and officers are patrolling every street. He adds that the stress of having the group, which some refer to as a cult, is taking a toll on the mental health of those living there. He stated that this is a new low for himself, and for everyone else in the community.
He called on the federal and provincial governments to develop bylaws that prevent this kind of situation in the future and provide mental health care to those who this has affected.
Concerned citizens of Richmound and neighboring towns gathered for a protest on Saturday, in an attempt to drive the group out of their community. The group was driven out of Kamsack in September.
