Football talk at home may be at a minimum, but the conversation is plentiful and productive between a pair of father and son duos that have helped to drive the offence as the Saskatoon Hilltops get set to host a Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) semi-final this weekend.
Quarterback Trey Reider is the offspring of former Toppers’ QB, and current Hilltops’ offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach, Shane Reider while running back Bosten Davidsen is the son of Saskatoon offensive line coach Don Davidsen. Both Trey Reider and Bosten Davidsen are Prairie Football Conference all-stars with Davidsen being named the Prairie Football Conference’s offensive player-of-the-year for 2023. Their contributions are staggering. With Trey Reider at the helm and executing Dad Shane Reider’s offence, the Toppers have put up 409 points in 10 games, scoring 37 offensive touchdowns. The 21-year-old, fourth-year Hilltop Trey Reider has thrown for 1,801 yards and 17 touchdowns, while only being picked off six times! As for Bosten Davidsen, he has piled up 1,477 rushing yards and found the end zone 13 times behind papa Donnie Davidsen’s O-line. It’s the 22-year-old’s fifth and final season in Saskatoon’s blue and gold. Both Shane Reider and Don Davidsen are in their 20th seasons on Tom Sargeant’s veteran-laden coaching staff. The Toppers are going after a 23rd Canadian Bowl title in 2023. They will face another unbeaten team this season on Sunday, when they welcome the Ontario Football Conference-champion Saint Clair Saints. Kick-off time Sunday is 1 p.m. at S-M-F Field. Following are two conversations Les Lazaruk conducted – the first is with Trey and Shane Reider at the same time, the second is with Bosten and Don Davidsen. That is the order of the headshot pictures, left to right, at the bottom…
