Canfax reports declines in all feeder steer and heifer weight categories last week—with many substantial decrease.
Five-to-six hundred pound feeder steers reported the smallest drop while the largest was on lightweight steers in the 300-to-400 pound range. Five of the six feeder heifer weight categories also reported double-digit declines due to sharp drops in the October and November feeder cattle futures contracts.
The volume of Saskatchewan feeder cattle sold at auction was 48,657 head last week, compared to 41,840 head marketed the previous week. Year-to-date, Saskatchewan feeder cattle marketing’s are six per cent above last year at 445,937 head.
The price of D2 slaughter cows in Alberta increased on average $1.54 to $135.83 per hundredweight. D3 slaughter cows were down 51 cents for an average price of $122.35 per hundredweight.
