Saskatchewan citizens with a dedication to promoting multiculturism in the province will be recognized at this afternoon’s Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan Honours Award Ceremony.
MCoS Executive Director Rhonda Rosenburg says she received 9 nominations for three different awards: the Saskatchewan Multicultural Leadership Award, the Multicultural Youth Leadership Award, and the new Leading Together Award.
The winner was chosen based off of the individual’s involvement in celebrating their culture, fighting against racism, and integration, among other things.
“We score people, depending on the question, out of 5 or 10 points. We’re really looking at what they’ve done, what kind of specific examples they’re able to share with us, and what impact their leadership has made,” Rosenburg explains. “We are looking for people who have been active in all or most of the five streams which are cultural continuity, celebration of diversity, anti-racism, intercultural connections, and integration.”
The recipients of the Saskatchewan Multicultural Leadership Award, the Multicultural Youth Leadership Award will be revealed today at Wanuskewin. The winners for the Leading Together Award were already chosen, as it is a new award. Angus and Maureen Desjarlais, and Mossbank’s Treaty Land Sharing Network were the recipients.
