With it being Cyber-Monday, the RCMP have some guidelines to use when making a purchase online to make sure you aren’t a victim of a scam.
Watch out if the website looks poorly designed and unprofessional or watch out if your credit card information is being requested for reasons other than your purchase. As well, beware if the shipping duties and extra charges seem abnormal.
And warning bells should go off if the website displays no contact information and if the item prices are incredibly low or the deals seem to good to be true.
Today is Cyber Monday and in the U-S, many Americans are expected to be shopping online, possibly setting an all-time record.
The U.S. National Retail Federation says Cyber Monday is the second most popular day, attracting 39 per cent (71.1 million) of those planning to shop over the weekend.
Gifts are the purchases shoppers are most likely to have made so far. Nearly half or 48 per cent of holiday shoppers have purchased gifts so far this holiday season. Another 18 per cent say they’ve purchased decorations and 17 per cent say they’ve purchased gifts for themselves.
