A recent Angus Reid Poll suggests there are two large groups in Saskatchewan at loggerheads over Bill 137, known as the Parental Bill of Rights.
It requires school divisions to seek parental consent in situations where students younger than 16 want to be referred to by a pronoun or name different than the one for which they are registered.
Forty-four per cent of those polled strongly support this policy while 31 per cent strongly oppose it.
Overall, 55 per cent are in favour, while 40 per cent don’t agree with it.
The non-profit Angus Reid Poll asked how people feel about the government’s handling of the issue.
Forty-eight responded that they did a good job, and 44 per cent disagree.
Half of those polled believe there should be an exception in cases where the school believes the child may be in an abusive household, unreceptive to these changes in identification.
