St. Joseph High School’s choir is taking on a daunting task this Wednesday, as they have been assigned the challenge of singing the songs of Queen.
Grade 11 choir member Sofia Wiens(weens) says the group has usually performed four choir-like songs in their productions from previous years, however this project has them perfecting the words and melodies of ten Queen songs.
These include Radio Ga Ga, We Will Rock You, and Bohemian Rhapsody.
“We’re just super excited to be able to say that we’ve got to do this. It’s super exciting to be a part of this, but it’s also nerves. It’s Queen. Everybody knows Queen, so we have to get it right,” Wiens stated.
The performance is a collaboration between the choir, who will be supplying backup vocals, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra providing the instrumental aspect, and Jeans N Classics on lead vocals.
Wiens says the project was a huge hit, attracting about 12 new members to the choir.
“Last year was smaller, but still a good size. This year, having a lot more kids is super fun… It sounds more full.”
This isn’t the first time something like this has taken place at St. Jospeh Hugh School.
“I’ve heard from Mr. Bzdel, my band teacher, that they did the exact same thing in 2012. They have done this same thing at St. Joe’s, but this is the first time that I’ve ever been a part of it.”
‘One Vision: The Music of Queen’ takes place at 7:30pm at TCU Place on the 10th.
