The Saskatoon Public Library Board has chosen one of North America’s largest and most diversified construction companies to build the new central library. Ledcor Construction Limited will work alongside the design and engineering teams to identify efficiencies to keep the project within budget and then once the design aligns with the schedule and budget, Ledcor will begin construction.
The build was to begin last fall, but Board Chair Jim Siemens said at the time that all of the construction bids were higher than the project’s budget, so the decision was to postpone to make some design changes. It’s now expected construction will begin this summer and the new downtown library will open in 2027. However, the new owner of the current building takes possession in December of 2026. Previously the SPL has said it is preparing to minimize any service disruptions.
A news release from the Saskatoon Public Library says there will be a more comprehensive project update in the coming weeks.
